acies such as chocolate chip cookies and root beer. All programs and event
s are free and open to the public.\nThe Smithsonian\, in partnership with
the North Dakota Humanities Council\, brings the exhibit Journey Stories\,
to local communities in North Dakota. The exhibit will tour in six diffe
rent locations across North Dakota throughout 2009 and 2010 including Ende
 rlin\, Beach\, Wahpeton\, Casselton\, Washburn and Ellendale. Journey
Stories examines how and why Americans have traveled from where they were
rooted to the next place\, in particular\, this place called North Dakota
. With the forced movement of Native peoples in the state over the last t
wo centuries\; the many explorers who traversed this unmapped land since t
he 1700s\; and the immigrants\, both historical and contemporary\, who hav
e come to North Dakota and stayed or moved on\, make this an appealing and
important exhibit. The many means of transportation\, from horses to oxc
arts to railroads\, steamboats\, canoes\, and automobiles\, have all left
their mark on the state's landscape and history.\n\nStart time: 10 a.m.
