Tom McGrath Visiting Writer’s Series. Yang was born in a Hmong refugee camp in Thailand in 1980 and six years later immigrated to the U.S. with her family, eventually settling in St. Paul. She’s a graduate of Carlton College and received a master’s degree from Columbia University.
