Calligraphy is the age-old art of beautiful writing. Put aside the keyboard or mouse and put a pen in your hand! Enjoy the shapes that simple tools can make on paper. Calligraphy classes offer you a chance to relax, have fun and learn a time-honored skill; they also increase your hand-eye coordination, patience and aesthetic awareness. This concentration will slow you down and let creativity into your evening. This basic class will focus on the comprehensive study of the elegant uncial letter forms. Lessons will consist of a theory section, forms, practice, review and a project. We will review many topics, including how to use calligraphy and the best pens, inks and papers to use, but we will start out using markers. There is a weekly homework component because calligraphy needs practice. Please let us know at registration if you are left-handed, as different pens are needed. A basic supply kit will be provided. Please bring a pencil, eraser, ruler, protractor (if you have one), notebook, file folder and reading glasses (if needed) to class. Anne Kaese has been doing calligraphy since the age of 12 and has studied with teachers from the United States, England and South Africa.
