    Prerequisite: Introduction to Calligraphy or equivalent experience. Now that the uncial hand and calligraphy basics have been mastered, we can tackle a lovely and elegant hand - italics. This intermediate class will focus on the comprehensive study of the elegant italic or chancery script, a style noted for its lithe stem and crossbar curves. You have the grounding from the introductory class behind you, so this class will build on the skills and experiences you've already learned. We will start with the minuscules (small letters), then progress to majuscules (capital letters). Lessons will consist of a theory section, forms, practice, review and a project. We will review many topics, including how to use calligraphy as well as the best pens, inks and papers to use. A calligraphy fountain pen is required for this class, and two different models will be available for purchase at the beginning of the class for around $12 to $20. There is a weekly homework component because calligraphy needs practice. Please let us know at registration if you are left-handed, as different pens are needed. A basic supply kit will be provided. Other items will be available for purchase. Please bring a pencil, eraser, T-square, protractor (if you have one), notebook, file folder and reading glasses (if needed) with you to the class.
