    Imaginary friends can be so naughty.

    With imaginary friends like Mr. Marmalade, what four-year-old needs enemies? This black comedy conjures the adult mindscape of Lucy, a pigtailed New Jersey tot whose fantasy companion comes accessorized with a personal assistant, bipolar disorder and cocaine problem. Far from being lonely with only Mr. M. and a suicidal five-year-old friend for company, Lucy easily might have skipped preschool and jumped straight to a job on Arrested Development. In a world permeated with chatter about sex, commitment and issues of self-esteem, no child is left behind for long.
