Bonnie Haney School of Dance and Performance Company will be performing the 24th annual production of The Nutcracker Suite & Holiday Show December 11th and 12th, 2010. There is a rite of passage in the school and performing company beginning with being an angel in Kindergarten, a candy in 1st grade, a mouse in 2nd grade, until they reach the level of a Pointe for the corps or solo dances, such as Snowflake Princess, Sugar Plum Fairy, as well as Clara and many other beautiful Pointe dances. Hours of practice and rehearsal are put in by the dancers to make the show the enchanting, breathtaking showcase it is. Especially beautiful is the dance of the Snowflakes in a winter wonderland (one of six hand painted backdrops used in the show) with snow sprinkling from the sky. Important to the success of this show has many people involved, from costume making and alterations for over 300 costumes to backstage props and dressing room monitors. Bonnie Haney choreographed the Nutcracker ballet and added new dances to the Holiday Show, which usually will cast approximately 100 dancers and makes minor adjustments each year to accommodate the number and level of the dancers. This year Bonnie will be adding few new dances to the “Holiday Show” in part II, incorporating a new holiday ballet dance along with the Hip-Hoppin’ Santas and Jazzy Reindeers, and Hip-Hoppin’ Santa and Helpers, Celtic Dancers, Snowmen and Kids, Mrs. Claus and the Elves, and Holiday Ballerinas. She, herself, performs in the show as Madame Bon Bon and brings squeals of delight from the audience with her performance. This is truly a magical show for all ages to enjoy.
