Concordia College will host “Super Cello Day” Saturday, Oct. 9 in Christiansen Recital Hall. All local and regional cello students, teachers and interested members of community are invited.
There is a $15 fee (includes free lunch) for cello students to participate in the Young Cellist Workshop. All other events are free and open to the public.
The morning master class is geared toward string players. Music history students and string players will be interested in the morning lecture and afternoon workshops will interest all musicians and music teachers.
Guests clinicians include Anthony Arnone, professor of cello at the University of Iowa; Janet Horvath, associate principal cello for the Minnesota Orchestra and author of “Playing (less) Hurt” and Elise Nelson, acting principal cello for the F-M Symphony and cello instructor at MSUM and NDSU.
Arnone, called “a cellist with rich tonal resources, fine subtlety and a keen sense of phrasing" by Gramophone magazine, is an active soloist, chamber musician, conductor and teacher throughout the country and around the world. Hovarth is a trailblazer in speaking and writing about the physical stresses experienced by musicians and will present the afternoon workshops. She has contributed significantly to the well-being, knowledge and health of teachers and students
