Statewide Radio Show to be Performed Live in Fargo on January 15th
NDSU strikes up the band for “Dakota Air: The Radio Show”
Fargo, ND, December 14, 2010—Fargo production company Prairie Airwaves has announced that the monthly radio program Dakota Air: The Radio Show will be performed to a live audience in Fargo at Festival Concert Hall on the campus of North Dakota State University (NDSU) on Saturday, January 15th, 2011 at 7 p.m., and recorded for broadcast later in the month on the statewide Prairie Public Broadcasting radio network.
NDSU will lend an assembly of talented performers to the evening, including the NDSU Gold Star Marching Band (“The Pride of North Dakota”) and the NDSU Faculty Jazz Combo.
“Dakota Air is radio for young and old alike,” said Dr. Thomas Riley, NDSU’s Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. “You will love it if you remember sitting in the living room around the old Philco, and you will love it even if you don’t know what a Philco is! We’re proud to be hosting the show at NDSU.”
Dakota Air: The Radio Show follows an old-fashioned radio variety format featuring host and executive producer Merrill Piepkorn and “The Radio Stars,” a band introduced to the nation during the performance of Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” in Bismarck in 2009. It also features original comedy by professional acting company “The Dakota Airheads” under the creative direction of humorist and writer Steve Stark. The January show will also include bits of fascinating history about the greater Fargo-Moorhead community.
Other highlights will include Fargo music instructor and accomplished vocalist Sam Mack; NDSU history professor, author and radio commentator, Dr. Tom Isern; and a special “salute” to former adjutant general of the ND National Guard and retiring NDSU vice president for university relations, Keith Bjerke.
A portion of ticket sales will go to benefit the NDSU Gold Star Marching Band. Dr. Sigurd Johnson, Director of Athletic Bands and Percussion, said, “The NDSU Gold Star Marching Band is thrilled to be associated with Dakota Air. We can't wait to be a part of the action both on the air as well as behind the scenes. It will be a blast!”
Tickets are $16 general admission and are available at the NDSU Fine Arts Box Office (701.231.7969 and www.ndsu.edu/finearts/boxoffice) and at any Gate City Bank in Fargo, Moorhead, or West Fargo.
