The Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County welcomes Olav Crone Aamot to present his story and World War II experiences as part of a World War II Series.
Olav Crone Aamot was one of the first regular members of the Royal Norwegian Army in July of 1945, and later that year also served as an interpreter/translator for the 2nd Division British Red Devils (Airborne) at Oslo Airport. Aamot was a born U.S. citizen, who, in order to retain U.S. citizenship status became a European U.S. Army enlistee in January 1947, at Marburg, Germany, before he was 18.
Aamot went on to become a career soldier in the U.S. Army Military Intelligence, with service in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam, eventually retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
