The oldest, largest, and best-loved exhibition in North Dakota and Western Minnesota has returned. The annual Midwestern Art Exhibition is held every year to celebrate the founding of The Rourke Gallery on June 18-19, 1960, and features art from artists across the United States. They present works in all media, all centered around a single theme: "Daughters and Sons of Art History."

The theme for this year’s Midwestern Exhibition was inspired by Yasumasa Morimura’s portfolio, in which he created portraits of himself in the styles of admired artists.

Having concluded an extensive construction project, the Museum will also be unveiling two new galleries, 19x19' in dimension, which overlook the Main Gallery and will house two new exhibitions that have never been seen before at The Rourke Art Gallery Musuem. In the East Gallery will be the "Tres Eras de la Tierra Nuestra" exhibit, featuring art of the Mexican region from the Pre-Columbian, Colonial, and Contemporary time periods. In the West Gallery will be an exhibition on Islamic Art, representing culture in Egypt, Persia, and India.
