Great Plains Harmony

Great Plains Harmony (GPH) is growing and on the move. GPH is a chorus of 40 men who perform a variety of music from barbershop to vocal jazz to gospel to choral arrangements. Our focus is to perform at the highest musical level and to entertain our audiences. Each member is committed to learning music outside of rehearsal so that valuable rehearsal time is spent improving the ensemble.

Founded in 1951, GPH is one of Fargo-Moorhead’s longest established ensembles. We have partnered with area arts groups including the Lake Agassiz Girls Choir, Red River Boys Choir, Trollwood Performing Arts Center, and Vocal Express Women’s Choir. As members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the chorus regularly competes and typically places as one of the top five choruses within the five state and three province region.

Members of the chorus include farmers, doctors, college students, business owners, and retired gentlemen. They all share a passion for singing and enjoy the camaraderie the ensemble provides. Our concert season typically consists of a fall performance which is staged around a show theme, and a late winter gospel show which we open up to members of the community to join us in a community chorus. We pride ourselves in providing a fantastic entertainment experience and audiences agree.

Within the chorus there are a number of active quartets which perform throughout the community and the region. Members of the chorus are encouraged to participate and compete in quartets to improve their skills as an independent singer.

Great Plains Harmony serves the community in a number of ways. We support the American Heart Association through the sale of Singing Valentines, we support music educators in the area by helping coach their chorus and ensembles and we perform in area churches when possible.
