    About the artist:

    Robert E. Kurkowski was born in Bismarck, North Dakota but raised largely in Fargo, North Dakota. After serving in the U. S. Navy, he received his degree in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota, Morris and then returned to the Fargo area. He worked for the Fargo Public Schools, helping to found the nationally recognized and award winning Creative Arts Studio. He retired from his position as the Director of the Creative Arts Studio in the spring of 2003 and since then has concentrated his efforts in his own studio, Marbakka Studios, near Christine, North Dakota, where he creates raku and stoneware ceramics, both sculptural and utilitarian work. He has received numerous awards for his works which have been called “whimsical, captivating and beautiful”. He is one of the founders and past president and chairman of the FM Visual Artists, which is an organization for professional artists in the FM area. He is also a registered Artist in Residence for the North Dakota Council on the Arts. He also serves on the Board of Directors of New Bohemia, North Dakota.
