Becky Mitchell
Visual Artist
About the artist:
Becky Mitchell “The Glass Lady” has been doing glasswork for more than 10 years. The talent runs in the family. Her mother took a class and taught Becky and her four brothers the art. Since then, Becky made everything from small sun catchers and pendants to mosaics and large windows. Her largest piece to date is a 7’x6’ window. Mitchell also enjoys teaching others her art. She has worked with school age children all the way up to adults. Becky refers to her art as “glass therapy.” “I enjoy working with the colors and variations in glass. It is a wonderful stress release. I compare the techniques of glass to putting together a puzzle. The process of cutting and grinding pieces to fit together is a challenging yet rewarding one. It is an art form where I think there is still quite a bit of mystery on how something with such vibrant color and seemingly hard to work with materials comes together. I love every aspect of working with glass from making traditional stained glass panels, the challenge of incorporating unusual items in my work, utilizing mosaics in everything from bowling balls to shower stalls and the beauty of fused and slumped glass” she says.
