This course will give you an introduction to brewing, from ingredients to techniques and equipment. We’ll discuss the advantages and challenges of three different approaches to homebrewing - kits, partial mash and full grain mash. You’ll learn about the history of brewing and the biology of brewing with a focus on the essentials of yeast fermentation, starch conversion, enzymes and temperature. Blended into the course will be discussions of numerous beer styles and a sampling of each. We will also discuss the recent rise in craft brewing and hear from a local brewer from the newly developed Fargo Beer Company!

James Sewell Ballet, a contemporary dance company from Minneapolis, joins forces with two of Fargo-Moorhead’s best-loved musicians and former residents--violinist Ben Sung and pianist Jihye Chang. Sung, Chang and cellist Hrant Parsamian accompany the ballet troupe as they dance to Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio and other music.

Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit Key Ingredients: America by Food

The Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit, "Key Ingredients: America By Food," is currently at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum in Valley City, now through March 11th. Sponsored by the North Dakota Humanities council this exhibit looks at the history of American food from many perspectives over time leading to the ultimate conclusion that our palates are diverse and ever changing in regards to what we eat. This exhibit is partnered with the exhibit Seeds of Change from the South Dakota Humanities Council talking about the food exchange between old world and new in 1492 as well as the local exhibit created by the BCHS reflecting Barnes County's food traditions and history.
The exhibit is open freely to the public Mon-Sat 10-4PM and Sundays 1-4PM. Formal tours and other hours by appointment.

Two exhibits, “EXPLORING NOW: 365 Days to 50” and “The sheARTS Project: Art Hats for Breast Cancer Awareness”, showcase how art heals the soul in times of life’s challenges. Both projects were created by local artist and designer, Claudia M. Pratt, who has faced breast cancer head on over the last five years.
