The Hjemkomst Center is a unique multi-use facility owned and operated by the City of Moorhead under a division of the Parks and Recreation Department. This beautiful facility hosts a variety of special exhibits and events, offering something for the entire family.
The Hjemkomst Viking Ship, permanently housed in the center; was built by Robert Asp and his family and sailed to Norway in 1984.

The facility is also home to Clay County Museum and Archives and the Red River Valley Historical Society. The Clay County museum offers a broad view of Clay County history through rotating exhibits. The Red River Valley Historical Society curates a temporary exhibit “Remember the Red River Valley” owned by the City of Moorhead, while a permanent exhibit is under development. Also housed within the Hjemkomst Center are the Chamber of Commerce of Fargo Moorhead and Senior Connections (the Moorhead Senior Citizens Center).

Located on the grounds of the Hjemkomst Center is the Stave Church, a symbol of the Norwegian heritage in the Red River Valley. Built by Guy Paulson, the church is a full-scale replica of the Hopperstad Church in Vik, Norway.

Surrounded by the Red River and Viking Ship Park, the Hjemkomst Center is host to several outdoor events throughout the year including Taste of the Valley, River Splash and the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival. You can also enjoy pontoon rides and canoe rentals offered by Riverkeepers.

The Hjemkomst Center has rooms to rent for business meetings, weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties and special occasions. For information on hosting an event please contact the Hjemkomst Center staff.
